Our Witness
As Quakers, we believe that each person can continually deepen their understanding of God’s will, which leads us to move beyond rigid doctrines. Instead, we aim to meet human needs through shared worship, remaining open to creative actions that serve God’s higher truths. Rooted in our belief that a divine Spirit dwells within everyone, we uphold core testimonies of integrity, simplicity, peace, and equality. These values guide us to reject war, oppression, and materialism, embracing a commitment to care for all of creation.
At Fifteenth Street Friends Meeting, we are particularly active in environmental stewardship, racial justice, and the pursuit of peace. For 60 years, we’ve held a Silent Vigil for Peace at Washington Square Arch, now on the first Sunday of each month at 1 p.m. In addition, we use minutes of conscience to make thoughtful, unified statements that reflect our shared convictions on critical moral and social issues.
